Simplicity will probably never go out of style. Single point of contact, easily manage everything from one console. Software maintenance support workers don’t have the patience for theory work — they want practical information they can obtain, apply and execute straightaway, and done at the same hour if possible.

JeromeEDGE network-monitoring software has the granularity that data centers need but requires a lot of manual configuration. But once the configuration setup is taken care of, the system takes off with a boost, it becomes painless and uncomplicated even to the novice support engineer.

Today, we take a look at one of our in-house software label, JeromeEDGE an open source distributed network monitoring software that presents a solid and straightforward solution that is quick to install, and provides the configuration and granularity that data center operators demand, to deliver fast network info discovery.

While a handful of customers might prefer less manual configuration and more pre-set options, our hands on installation and after-sales support should take care of that, and leaving users with a powerful platform that is ready to go, to monitor and unveil all sorts of data, discrepancies and information embedded within networks that are crucial information for support work.

JeromeEDGE can monitor both Linux and Windows systems, but the software itself runs only on Linux, due to the inherent stability of the operating system and low resource demand it puts on hardware.

If you want to test drive JeromeEDGE without committing to the entire installation and configuration process, JeromeEDGE offers a pre-configured appliance for most popular virtualization platforms, including JeromeHCI, KVM, VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, and Azure.

JeromeEDGE provides an interactive online form that creates the proper installation steps based on your choice of Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle Linux and Debian) and database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). Our preferred combination is Ubuntu with MySQL because of their user-friendly installation and set-up methods and both variants having their own respective, large global community support.

After completing the required setup steps, the JeromeEDGE web interface can then be launched from any browser. With proper configuration, the web interface can be viewed in most HTML5 enabled web-browsers. from any location. Once logged in, the user is presented with a ready-to-configure dashboard, consisting of a collection of default widgets for items like discovery, problem notification, general system and host status.

You can customize the dashboard by adding and removing widgets as needed. You can also drag and drop, resize, remove and rename widgets to suit your environment. The dashboard functionality is very flexible, enabling the user to quickly create multiple custom dashboards and easily switch between them.

Hosts and items

JeromeEDGE network monitoring centers around hosts and items. To get started, you only need a name and an IP address to add a new host. Each host can be customized by adding “items” which are single metrics you wish to monitor – anything from CPU load and memory usage to web page load time and database status.

You can create multiple items for each host, which provides impressive granularity. With your mix of hosts and a few monitoring items applied for each, you can then add triggers that would alert to any problems. Triggers can be set with thresholds for notification, ranging from informational to critical emergencies that requires immediate resolve. Triggers can be display on the dashboard and can also be configured to send emails, SMS or IM messages (Telegram for instance) when there is a problem.

JeromeEDGE also allows custom scripts to be run when certain criteria are met. Based on the type of host you create, JeromeEDGE can apply either pre-defined or custom templates. Templates that use pre-configured items and triggers speed up the configuration process.

JeromeEDGE compliments the existing suite of hyperconverged infrastructure solutions from Jerome Technology that are tailored for enterprises, small-medium companies, government agencies and departments. By fusing JeromeEDGE with software-defined data center platforms like JeromeHCI, managing the data center becomes a breeze, leaving engineers with time and space to focus on other important aspects of the network infrastructure management.
